About P2P

On July 16 and July 17, the Collaborative & Adaptive Security Initiative (CASI) will host the People 2 People Learning Lab. During this event, virtual and on-site participants will connect and engage through social media across the cultural, geographic and digital divide.

Each conversation session will evaluate our use of social media and the development of social networks during the lab while following this format:
  • Introduction
  • Roundtable discussion between on-site speakers and virtual participants
  • Q&A session
  • A review of social media feeds
  • Interaction with international participants
  • Feedback and Evaluation
These conversations will be based on topics around:
  • How do we meet and initiate a conversation through digital media?
  • How do we feel safe and comfortable on digital media?
  • How do we share and digest information across digital media?
  • How do we work on information and create action on digital media?
  • How do we sustain and expand the relationship on digital media?

CONVERSATION TOPICS
The lab will be organized into five conversations revolving around developing relationships and trust in this social media environment.

Developing common awareness & respect
In working with global partners, our very best intentions can be misinterpreted if we are unaware of the cultural, political, and personal landscapes our partners navigate daily. To form partnerships based in mutual respect we need to first build a foundation of awareness and understanding of our partners’ personal motivations, needs, and goals. We will explore innovative ways to respectfully partner with others without preconceived notions and assumptions. Instead, we will listen and engage substantive topics in a collaborative environment.

Supporting safe communications
As new technologies and multimedia experiences quickly develop, we need new approaches to being secure in digital environments. Safe communication includes protecting individual voices and opinions as well as protecting secure networks that allow global partners to discuss sensitive issues openly. We will examine how to best create networks that encourage open and transparent dialogue.

Sharing knowledge & new ideas
Across the world at any given moment, isolated groups are in the process of reinventing the same wheel. New ideas are best developed through networks of people with common interests and passions. Rather than working in seclusion, we aim our discussions at unifying partners with similar goals.

Building & nurturing positive networks
The networks we develop must be cultivated and maintained over time. Simply establishing initial connections does not create the collaborative environments needed to sustain projects, ideas, and energy across time and distance. Global digital networking requires carefully coordinated efforts to maintain momentum. Our conversations in this session will center on ideas and methods for building enduring relationships.
